BACK IN THE PREMIERSHIP

Following Drew’s impressive return to British Speedway with Championship Scunthorpe, he made another statement of intent when he took up a Rising Star guest booking for Leicester Lions in their Premiership clash with Ipswich Witches. Riding at number 7, Drew flew from the gate in Heat 2 and continued to pull away from the rest of the pack, winning the race by a quarter of a lap and equalling the time of Heat 1 - 60.47, in the process. Drew took a vital third place in Heat 4 as the impressive Emil Sayfutdinov thrilled the crowd, and it was Drew who was back to winning ways in Heat 8 to help the Lions to another 5-1. Drew just lost out to Danyon Hume in his final race of the night, but with 7+1 he’d produced the goods and helped Leicester to a 52-38 win over the Witches who were not only licking their wounds but having salt rubbed into them too by Ipswich asset Drew Kemp!

BACK IN THE UK!

Drew began his 2023 season in British Speedway with a thrilling ride for Scunthorpe Scorpians in Heat 3 against Redcar Bears’ Steve Worrall. Despite a decent start in his second ride he was at the back coming out of bend two and could never make ground. In Heat 9, Drew and Jake Allen looked to be heading for a 5-1 but Drew got squeezed out by Jake on lap two losing momentum which Charles Wright took advantage of on lap 3. Drew was involved in another exciting race in Heat 12. Connor Bailey found a way past Drew coming out of bend four going into the last lap but Drew took the lead again going into bend 1 but his momentum took him slightly wide allowing Bailey back through although Drew made ground on the last bend, Bailey just took it on the line. In an post match interview, Scunthorpe’s Michael Palm-Toft said of Drew’s debut, “Drew seems to be liking it here, he had some good battles but was unlucky with his points.”
